Love RAVO Day

Posted : 16 November 2018

On Thursday 15 November we came together for Love RAVO Day, to unveil our new RAVO sculpture and rejoice in the spirit of our warm, diverse and connected School community.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Ku-ring-gai, Cr. Jennifer Anderson, who gave a speech about the significance of Ravenswood's contribution to the community and the importance of relationships and striving for your dreams.

The sculpture was created by accomplished Australian artist Will Colhoun, and is designed to represent the essence of the School through the signature term of endearment, RAVO, used by generations of girls, families and staff.

Principal Mrs Anne Johnstone was inspired to commission the sculpture while studying for her Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) at the University of Pennsylvania last year. The University lawn features an example of the iconic LOVE sculpture by renowned pop artist Robert Indiana. ‘It spoke to me of the warmth and vibrancy of our girls, of the altruism and supportive staff and the commitment to excellence, respect, courage, compassion and optimism that are the essence of Ravenswood,’ Mrs Johnstone says.

‘My hope is that our new RAVO sculpture will serve to inspire us as we walk past it each day, reminding us of the importance of love in our School community and motivating us all to live lives of meaning and purpose: semper ad Meliora - always towards better things!’
